A 180- degree turn
Thursday, August 26, 2010
My engineer-brother, Nato, corrected me when I told him that our life (Pete and mine) took a 360-degree turn. He's right, it's only a 180-degree turn.

So many things changed since we migrated to the U.S.

From having 2-3 helpers (two, 24/7 , and one on weekends and busy days), doing all the chores for us (well, except cooking, which I love to do). I only have me and myself- with a little assistance from my hubby every now and then, to do the laundry, set the table, wash the dishes, clean the house, take care of the plants and the pets, clean the car, etc. etc.

From a ratio of 1:1 car for each one in our family back home , we don't have our own car here. Thank God for my kind in-laws, they lent us one of their cars, so we are at least mobile. I have not applied for a driver's license here, so I have to wait for my husband
to drive for me; unlike in the Philippines, where I was able to drive anywhere I wanted to go.

From having our own house, we are living with our siblings in their homes.

From being the interviewer and decision-maker before, my husband is back to square one - applying and being interviewed for jobs here.

From being surrounded by so many relatives and friends in our country, we can count on our fingers, our acquaintances here.

From being pampered by banks back home, even getting a credit card here is like passing through the eye of a needle.

From having a weekly home service manicure and pedicure, I do it all myself now.

From the monthly haircut and hairdye by Janet or Pepot (my favorite hairdressers), Pete trims my hair and his, too; while I do the hairdye for the two of us.

But most of all, from being able to kiss and talk to our children and grandchildren anytime, we content ourselves now with watching their videos, seeing their uploaded pictures, chatting with them, exchanging emails, and talking with them over the magicjack.

We are not complaining; rather we are so thankful for this chance that HE so generously gave us. As long as Pete and I are together, everything would be fine.

As I've said before,"This is where HE wanted us to be, HIS will be done."

    Hi Tita Josie,

I'm so glad that you are able to cope up with your new life there in the U.S. I admire you for your courage to migrate there and leave everything behind at home. I agree with you that no matter where you are as long as you are with your beloved, you will do just fine.

May God bless you and Tito Pete always!

    Hi Anna!

Thanks for reading my blog (kahit na pang-amateur lang 'to).

Glad that you agree with me na "no matter where you are as long as you are with your beloved, you will do just fine."

To relate that to what you just underwent in your life as a couple." no matter what happens, as long as you are together, everything will come to pass."

    Mama Jo,

I didn't realize how much you left behind to come here to the US. I admire you for your courage and the passion you have for life. It has been a pleasure to get to know you at work and I am thankful that you are here with us.

I know how scary it is to be very far from your family and all you love. Although I am not as far away as you are, my family is over 2,000 miles from me. Time eases the pain of missing them but it doesn't fully take it away. I can only tell you that no distance can stop the love you have for someone. For I tell them as often as I can how much I love them.

You might not have your real family here with you but I know a lot of us at work look to you as our Mama Jo. We can be your family here and again I am so thankful that God gave me the chance to meet you!

    Crystal
